Does This Sound Like You?

Are you feeling drained all the time?

Have that "wired than tired" feeling too?

Perhaps you are battling brain fog and have trouble getting restful sleep?

These are all symptoms of hormone imbalances and not just a sign of "getting older" or feeling stressed. Discover what your doctor may have missed and why it's time for a smarter approach to resolving hormonal imbalances once and for all.

The Complex Endocrine System

Your endocrine system is responsible for the production of the various hormones necessary for essential functions – from regulating metabolism to maintaining healthy tissues, sex drive, reproduction, sleep cycles, and mood.

The endocrine system pairs specific hormone functions to each organ to determine which chemicals need to be released, at what time, and for which purpose.

The pituitary gland, a small pea-sized gland, is also consulted the “master gland” as it controls the other glands in your body. It produces many hormones, like growth hormone (GH or somatotropin), while stimulating other glands to release additional hormones like cortisol.

Other important glands of the endocrine system include the pineal gland, a pine cone-shaped gland that regulates melatonin and circadian rhythm, the thyroid gland, important for thyroxine (T4) production, the thymus gland, responsible for childhood growth and releasing disease-fighting T cells, and the adrenal glands that regulate cortisol levels.

The glands that are part of your endocrine system work together, like a complex hormonal symphony, to control the level of hormones that circulate throughout your body at any given time.

So when just one of these glands is “out of tune”, creating imbalances, it can lead to widespread health issues ranging from chronic fatigue to increased risks for other imbalances like low metabolism and reduced libido.

So when patients present with hormonal imbalances, most traditionally-trained clinicians typically focus on a diagnosis along with a drug protocol to treat the symptoms – for example, synthetic hormone replacement therapies such as thyroid medications.

Unfortunately, this drug-first approach oftentimes “misses the boat.”

  • Taking prescription drugs oftentimes just masks the symptoms but does nothing to remedy the underlying root cause, creating the imbalance in the first place — which can be poor diet, nutritional deficiencies, or stealth infections.
  • Using prescriptions to mask symptoms is dangerous as it allows the underlying disorder to progress without the patient knowing — and in many cases can create additional “downstream” imbalances in other areas of the body.
  • Many medications have serious side effects — such as stroke, osteoporosis, anxiety, reproductive problems, cancer, and more.

Balancing hormones naturally is not only effective but can frequently have additional benefits such as increased energy, weight loss, improved sleep, and healthier skin.

That’s why at Vitality Family Health, we’re focusing on identifying the root cause of your hormonal imbalances so we can craft a personalized plan that addresses the issues for good.

Safety

When your hormones are in balance, everyday life feels easier–steadier energy, better sleep, clearer thinking, a calmer mood, and a metabolism that finally cooperates. Our whole-person plan looks at the common drivers behind hormone symptoms: blood sugar control (insulin), thyroid function, adrenal stress (HPA axis), gut health, inflammation, nutrient gaps, sleep, movement, and environmental exposures. We’ll review sensible next steps and can go over specific tests, treatments, and services during your discovery consult.

Safety matters. Don’t stop medications on your own–especially thyroid, steroid, psychiatric, blood pressure, or diabetes meds. Get urgent care for red-flag symptoms like chest pain, severe shortness of breath, sudden severe headache, fainting, heavy vaginal bleeding, vision loss, or thoughts of self-harm. If you’re pregnant, trying to conceive, or nursing, tell us up front so we tailor labs and therapies appropriately.

FAQs

How do I know if my hormones are out of balance?

If you are experiencing persistent fatigue, unexplained weight changes, mood swings, brain fog, low libido, hair loss, sleep problems, or a general sense that your body is not functioning the way it should, hormone imbalances may be a factor. The only way to know for certain is through comprehensive testing that evaluates the full hormonal picture—not just a single marker. Our discovery consult is a great place to discuss your symptoms and determine whether working with us and testing is the right next step.

Will I need to take hormones?

Not necessarily. Many hormone imbalances are driven by treatable root causes—chronic stress, gut dysfunction, nutrient deficiencies, blood sugar instability, or inflammation. When these are addressed, hormone levels often improve on their own without the need for replacement therapy. That said, when hormones have declined significantly—particularly during perimenopause, menopause, or andropause—bioidentical hormone replacement therapy may be the most effective path to restoring balance and quality of life. We always explore the least invasive options first and only recommend BHRT when the evidence supports it.

My doctor said my thyroid is fine, but I still feel terrible. What’s going on?

Standard thyroid testing typically checks only TSH, which can miss a range of thyroid problems—including poor T4-to-T3 conversion, autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s), and subclinical hypothyroidism where TSH is technically in range but not optimal. We run comprehensive thyroid panels that include free T3, free T4, and thyroid antibodies. In many cases, patients who have been told their thyroid is “fine” discover a treatable imbalance when the right tests are ordered.

Can gut health really affect my hormones?

Absolutely. The gut plays a direct role in hormone metabolism and elimination. A collection of gut bacteria known as the estrobolome regulates how estrogen is processed and cleared from the body—when the microbiome is imbalanced, estrogen can be recirculated rather than eliminated, contributing to estrogen dominance. Gut inflammation also raises cortisol, impairs nutrient absorption (reducing the raw materials needed for hormone production), and disrupts the gut-brain-hormone axis. Healing the gut is often one of the most impactful steps in restoring hormonal balance.

I’m a man. Can I have hormone imbalances too?

Yes. Hormone imbalances are not exclusively a women’s health issue. Men experience a gradual decline in testosterone beginning in their 30s, and factors like chronic stress, poor sleep, insulin resistance, and environmental toxin exposure can accelerate this decline. Symptoms of low testosterone include fatigue, brain fog, loss of muscle mass, weight gain, irritability, low libido, and depression. Thyroid dysfunction and adrenal imbalance also affect men. Comprehensive testing can identify these imbalances and guide an effective treatment plan.

How long does it take to see improvement?

This depends on what is driving the imbalance. Some patients notice improvements in energy, mood, and sleep within weeks—particularly when blood sugar is stabilized or a key nutrient deficiency is corrected. Gut healing and adrenal recovery typically take two to four months. Hormonal rebalancing through BHRT often produces noticeable results within four to eight weeks, with continued improvement over several months. We track progress with follow-up testing and adjust your plan as your body responds.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. Many components of our functional approach—including lab result reviews, nutritional counseling, supplement guidance, and follow-up visits—can be conducted effectively via telehealth for patients anywhere in the state of Illinois. Initial evaluations and certain testing may benefit from an in-person visit at our Oak Brook office.

What happens in the discovery consult?

We review your goals and history and outline smart first steps. We can go over specific tests, treatments, and services as part of that consult.
