Few topics in health care carry as much weight, emotion, and complexity as vaccination. Whether you are a parent making decisions for your child, an adult staying current on your own immunizations, or someone who has questions and concerns about the process, you deserve a provider who takes the time to have a real, individualized conversation with you rather than handing you a schedule and moving on.

At Vitality Family Health in Oak Brook, IL, we offer vaccination services for children and adults as part of our comprehensive primary care practice. Our approach is built on informed consent, open communication, and respect for each family’s values and decision-making process. We provide the education, the evidence, and the time you need to make confident choices about immunizations, and we support you regardless of where you land. There is no judgment here. Only partnership.

Our Philosophy on Vaccinations

We believe that an informed decision is the best decision. That means we do not approach immunizations as a one-size-fits-all protocol. Every family is different. Every child is different. Every adult has a unique medical history, set of risk factors, and set of values that should be part of the conversation.

Our role is to provide you with clear, accurate, and balanced information about each vaccine: what it protects against, how it works, the recommended timing, the known benefits, the potential risks, and the evidence behind all of it. We encourage questions. We welcome dialogue. We take the time to discuss each vaccine individually rather than presenting a long list and asking you to sign at the bottom.

Whether you choose to follow the standard CDC and AAP immunization schedules, prefer a modified or individualized schedule, or decide to decline certain vaccinations, we respect your decision and continue to provide the same high-quality, nonjudgmental care. Our commitment is to you and your family’s health, and that commitment does not change based on the vaccination choices you make.

Does This Sound Like You?

Do you have questions about vaccines that your current provider does not seem willing or able to answer?

Have you felt pressured or rushed into vaccination decisions without enough time to discuss your concerns?

Are you looking for a provider who will talk through each vaccine individually and help you understand the benefits and risks?

Do you want a practice that respects your right to make informed choices about immunizations for your family?

Are you an adult who is unsure whether you are up to date on your own vaccinations and want guidance on what may be appropriate for your age and health profile?

What We Offer

Childhood and Adolescent Vaccinations

We provide childhood and adolescent immunizations as part of our pediatric and family care services. The CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) publish recommended immunization schedules that outline which vaccines are recommended at each age, from infancy through adolescence. These schedules are designed to provide protection during the ages when children are most vulnerable to specific infectious diseases.

We are happy to administer vaccines according to the standard CDC/AAP schedule for families who choose that path. For families who prefer a modified or individualized approach, we work with you to develop a schedule that reflects your preferences while keeping your child’s health and safety at the center of the conversation. We discuss each vaccine on its own merits, including the disease it targets, the timing and number of doses, and any considerations specific to your child’s medical history.

Adult Immunizations

Vaccination is not just for children. Adults benefit from staying current on certain immunizations, and recommendations change based on age, health status, occupation, travel plans, and other risk factors. We offer adult vaccinations including seasonal influenza, Tdap/Td (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) boosters, pneumococcal vaccines, shingles (herpes zoster) vaccine, hepatitis A and B, meningococcal vaccines, and others based on your individual needs. If you are unsure what you may need, we can review your vaccination history and make personalized recommendations.

Travel Vaccinations and Occupational Requirements

If you are traveling internationally or your employer requires specific vaccinations, we can help you determine which immunizations are recommended or required for your destination or workplace. We review your travel itinerary or employer requirements, assess your current vaccination status, and administer the appropriate vaccines with enough lead time before your trip or start date.

Vaccine Education and Consultation

For families who want to learn more before making any decisions, we offer dedicated time to discuss vaccines in depth. This is not a sales conversation. It is an educational one. We review the available evidence, answer your questions honestly, discuss your child’s specific risk factors and medical history, and help you feel genuinely informed. Many families find that having this kind of unhurried, individualized conversation removes the anxiety and confusion that often surround vaccination decisions.

Individualized Vaccine Scheduling

The standard immunization schedule recommended by the CDC and AAP is based on extensive research and is designed to protect children as early as possible against serious infectious diseases. For many families, following this schedule is the right choice, and we fully support that decision.

Other families prefer a modified approach. This may mean spacing certain vaccines further apart, prioritizing specific vaccines based on individual risk, or choosing to defer or decline particular immunizations. We work with these families to create a thoughtful, individualized schedule that reflects their values while ensuring that we are discussing the potential implications of each decision openly and honestly.

Regardless of the schedule you choose, we document everything carefully, track what has been given and what is outstanding, and ensure your child’s vaccination records are complete and available for school enrollment, sports participation, travel, and any other requirements. If your child has fallen behind on a preferred schedule, we help you create a catch-up plan that makes sense for your family.

What to Expect at Your Vaccination Visit

Vaccination visits at our practice are never rushed. Before any vaccine is administered, your provider will review your (or your child’s) medical history, discuss any relevant health conditions or family history, review the specific vaccines being considered, answer your questions, and ensure you feel comfortable and informed. After the vaccine is given, we provide guidance on what to expect in the hours and days following, including common reactions (mild soreness, low-grade fever, fussiness in infants) and the signs that would warrant a consult to our office.

We maintain accurate and up-to-date immunization records for every patient. If you need copies of your vaccination history for school, work, travel, or any other purpose, we can provide them promptly.

Safety

Vaccines, like all medical interventions, carry the potential for side effects. Most reactions are mild and short-lived, such as soreness at the injection site, low-grade fever, fatigue, or mild fussiness in young children. These typically resolve within a day or two and are a normal part of the immune response.

Serious adverse reactions are rare but possible. We discuss the known risks associated with each vaccine before it is administered so you can make a fully informed decision. If your child or you have a history of a previous severe reaction to a vaccine, a known allergy to a vaccine component, or a medical condition that may affect vaccine safety (such as an immune deficiency or a history of Guillain-Barré syndrome), it is essential that you share this information with your provider before any immunization is given.

Seek immediate medical attention if you or your child experiences any of the following after a vaccination: difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, or throat, a high fever that does not respond to medication, a seizure, extreme lethargy or unresponsiveness, or any reaction that seems severe or unusual. Call 911 for any signs of anaphylaxis.

FAQs

Do you require patients to follow a specific vaccine schedule?

No. We support informed decision-making and work with each family individually. We are happy to administer vaccines on the standard CDC/AAP schedule, a modified or individualized schedule, or on a timeline you develop in consultation with your provider. We also respect the decision of families who choose to decline certain vaccinations. Our role is to educate, support, and provide excellent care regardless of the choices you make.

Will you refuse to see my family if we choose not to vaccinate?

No. We do not dismiss families based on their vaccination decisions. We believe that maintaining a strong, trusting relationship with a knowledgeable provider is one of the most important things a family can have, regardless of where they stand on vaccination. We are here to provide care, answer questions, and support your family’s health in every way we can.

Can I discuss vaccines with you before making a decision?

Absolutely. We encourage it. We are happy to schedule dedicated time to discuss vaccines in depth, review the evidence, answer your questions, and help you think through the decision in the context of your child’s unique health profile and your family’s values. There is no pressure and no rush.

Do you offer all standard childhood vaccines?

We offer a comprehensive range of childhood and adolescent vaccinations. Vaccine availability can vary depending on supply and specific formulations. If a particular vaccine is not available in our office, we will help you arrange access through a pharmacy or other provider. Please contact our office to confirm availability of specific vaccines.

Do you offer adult vaccines like flu shots, shingles, and pneumonia?

Yes. We provide a range of adult immunizations including Tdap/Td boosters, pneumococcal vaccines, shingles vaccine, hepatitis A and B, and others based on your age, health status, and individual risk factors. If you are unsure what you may need, we can review your history and make recommendations at your next visit.

Can you help with vaccine records for school or work?

Yes. We maintain complete, up-to-date immunization records for all of our patients and can provide documentation for school enrollment, sports participation, employment, college admission, travel, or any other purpose. If your child’s records are incomplete or you are unsure of your own vaccination history, we can help you determine what has been given and what may still be needed.

My child is behind on vaccines. Can you help us catch up?

Yes. Whether your child has fallen behind on the standard schedule or on an individualized plan, we can create a catch-up schedule that is safe, practical, and tailored to your child’s needs. We review what has been given, what is outstanding, and the appropriate timing and spacing for any remaining doses.

Do you offer telehealth for vaccine consultations?

Yes. Vaccine education and consultation discussions can be conducted via telehealth. However, the actual administration of vaccines requires an in-person visit at our Oak Brook office.

What happens after the discovery consult?

The discovery consult is a brief, no-cost conversation where you can share your concerns, ask questions about our approach to vaccinations and overall care, and find out whether Vitality Family Health is the right fit for your family. If we are a good match, we will walk you through the next steps to become a member. There is no pressure and no obligation.
